The Department of Cardiology, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai along with the hospital in the second

largest Government Institution in the state of Tamilnadu catering to the 12 southern districts of the state.

The Department of Cardiology in particular is the referral centre for all the districts and taluk headquarters hospital of the 12 distcits and also the higher referral centre for the medical colleges from south Tamilnadu namely.

The department of Cardiology in equipped with 1 state of the art Cath lab functioning 24x7 and performing procedures on all days of the year. The procedures include Primary PCI. Pharmoco - invasive PCI, Elective PCI, Complex PCI, Temporary and Permanent Pacemaker implantation, Balloon Valvuoplasty for mitral, Tricuspid, Aoritc and Pulmonary valve, Device closure for ASD, VSD and PDA and other complex congenital heart diseases in children. We are regularly doing Balloon mitral valvuloplasty in pregnant women as a lifesaving procedure during pregnancy.

0n an average, the department of Cardiology is attended by 75,000 outpatients and 3500 inpatients are admitted in our wards for various cariac ailments in a year and also giving 18,000 opionions / year for other department patients.
