DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRIC SURGERY

Department of Paediatric Surgery was started in Madurai Medical College and Government Rajaji Hospital in December 1963.

It is one of the oldest Paediatric Surgery units in the country.

In the year 1967, the MCh super specialty degree in Paediatric Surgery was started.

The department takes care of daily outpatients, inpatient services, elective operations, and round-the-clock emergency surgical services for children.

OPD Timing: 10.00 AM to 12.00 PM daily

With the paediatric surgery duty team available round the clock, the division offers dedicated surgical services to children. In a very eventful span since 1965, many complicated neonatal and other paediatric surgical cases have been operated upon.

With the excellent newborn services in the hospital, major neonatal surgeries such as tracheoesophageal fistula, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, bowel atresias, anorectal malformations, and other complex congenital anomalies are performed, with very good postoperative care.
