1958 - The department of Paediatrics was begun modestly with one lecturer, one tutor and 4 beds. 1964 - Intake for Diploma in Child Health was introduced.
1967 - MD Paediatrics course was started.
1971 - Foundation for the Paediatric block was laid. 1977 - The new Paediatric block started functioning.
2003 - First in South Tamilnadu to be designated as Institute of Child Health and Research Centre

It now stands tall with 6 Units and 1 PICU, 7 Professors, 16 Assistant Professors and has a current intake of 17 MD Postgraduates per year.

Centre of Excellence guiding 12 PICUs across Tamilnadu.

It boasts of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the State; our NICU is equipped with high tech facilities like iNO, therapeutic hypothermia etc; It has a dedicated breast milk bank also.

State of the art high tech hybrid PICU - does a commendable work in saving the lives of innumerable children referred from surrounding district, Medical college hospitals and private institutions.
